As anticipation builds for the 2025 release of Grand Theft Auto 6,most game developers are carefully considering their launch windows to avoid direct competition with the industry giant. Though, Rebel Wolves, the studio behind the upcoming RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, is bucking that trend, openly preparing for a launch alongside Rockstar Games’ title. This unusual stance from former witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz signals a potential shift in confidence within the gaming industry, especially as smaller studios increasingly prioritize creative vision over market pressures.

Developers behind one of the most anticipated RPGs of next year aren’t fazed by the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, former director of The Witcher 3 and current head of Rebel Wolves, told GamesRadar that the launch of The Blood of Dawnwalker around the same time as Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t concern him.

The creator acknowledged that industry attention will naturally focus on GTA, given its massive scale and marketing budget, but he doesn’t see this as a problem – either as a player or a developer.

In a landscape where many studios actively avoid launching near a new GTA title – with even Hideo Kojima previously stating that Death Stranding 2 needed to arrive well before the next Grand Theft Auto – Tomaszkiewicz’s position stands out for its composure. This signals a shift in confidence among developers as the industry matures.

Market analyses have previously suggested competing with GTA 6 is a losing proposition, and some designers have stated that no open-world game can realistically challenge Rockstar Games. Despite this, Rebel Wolves is sticking to its plans, emphasizing that the team’s efficiency allows them to prioritize quality over concerns about market giants.

For Polish gamers and the country’s growing development sector, this represents a clear signal of self-assurance and increasing maturity. The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release next year and, if all goes according to plan, will go head-to-head with what is expected to be the biggest game launch of the decade. Tomaszkiewicz remains unfazed, stating he intends to play GTA as a gamer, but won’t adjust his studio’s creative vision to accommodate another game’s release schedule.
