Prince Harry has called on the United States to honor its international obligations in Ukraine, urging American leadership to take a stronger role in ending the conflict. Speaking at the Kyiv Security Forum on Thursday, the Duke of Sussex emphasized that the U.S. Bears a unique responsibility due to its part in the assurances given when Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons.
He stated that American involvement should not be seen as charity but as a fulfillment of its enduring role in global security and strategic stability. Harry clarified that he was not speaking as a politician but as a former soldier and humanitarian who understands the value of service.
In response, former President Donald Trump dismissed the prince’s remarks, saying Harry “is not speaking for the UK.” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on April 23 that he believes he speaks for Britain more than the Duke does, though he added that he appreciates Harry’s advice.
The exchange highlights ongoing transatlantic discussions about the level of U.S. Engagement in supporting Ukraine amid the continuing war with Russia. Trump has previously expressed frustration over the difficulty of ending the conflict, noting it has proven harder to resolve than he initially anticipated.
Prince Harry’s visit to Kyiv included meetings with Ukrainian officials, including Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and featured his public appeal for renewed American commitment to uphold security guarantees tied to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
