This powertrain choice coincides with a major structural retreat for the brand's electric ambitions in the region: the pure-internal-combustion models and the battery-electric EX40—formerly known as the XC40 Recharge—are being phased out of the American market entirely. Drivers seeking a fully electric compact utility vehicle from the automaker will therefore need to look toward newer dedicated platforms rather than this evolutionary branch.

Active safety and driver assistance receive equal attention in the 2028 update, addressing practical urban and highway concerns through modern sensor suites. A newly upgraded 360-degree exterior camera system introduces a 3D perspective to assist with tight parking maneuvers, while a proactive Door Opening Alert warns occupants of approaching hazards like cyclists before they exit the vehicle.
