Trey Yesavage, the Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect and a key part of their pitching rotation, is nearing a return after missing 18 games due to injury. The right-handed pitcher, who made his MLB debut on September 15, 2025, has been working through a rehab assignment and is scheduled for one more outing before rejoining the active roster. Yesavage, born July 28, 2003, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, was selected by the Blue Jays in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft after a standout college career at East Carolina University. He quickly rose through the organization’s ranks, earning recognition as the 25th-best prospect in baseball and the team’s top-rated pitching prospect according to MLB Pipeline. During the 2025 postseason, Yesavage delivered a historic performance, recording 39 strikeouts—the most by a rookie in a single postseason in MLB history. He became the first rookie ever to record multiple 10-plus strikeout games in the postseason and the only pitcher to achieve his first two double-digit strikeout outings in postseason play. His standout moment came in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he struck out all nine batters in the starting lineup—joining Randy Johnson and Bob Gibson as the only pitchers to accomplish that feat in a World Series game. The Blue Jays announced his rehab progress on April 17, 2026, confirming he is set for one more rehabilitation start before being activated from the injured list. His return is expected to provide a significant boost to Toronto’s rotation as they push for positioning in the highly competitive AL East. Yesavage wears number 39 for the Blue Jays, becoming the second player to do so in 2025 alongside Will Robertson and the first pitcher to wear it since Jake Petricka in 2018. A graduate of Boyertown Area High School in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, he continues to be viewed as a cornerstone of the team’s future.
