Former U.S. President Donald Trump responded to heckling with a gesture considered highly offensive during a visit to a Michigan automotive plant on Tuesday, January 13th. The incident, captured on video, occurred as Trump toured a Ford F-150 factory in Detroit.

Video footage of the event quickly circulated on social media, showing Trump, wearing a long black coat, positioned above the factory floor. According to reports from AFP, the incident unfolded after shouts from the crowd.

The former president appeared to point toward someone on the factory floor, making a gesture with his right hand before raising his middle finger.

TMZ, a U.S. entertainment outlet, obtained a 30-second video of the exchange, reporting that the individual was shouting accusations at Trump.

A second video circulating online reportedly shows the same interaction from a closer angle. According to TMZ, the person can be heard yelling, “protector of pedophiles” toward the former president.

In the video released by TMZ, Trump is heard responding with “fuck you” twice, directed at the heckler.

The White House defended Trump’s actions, characterizing his response as “appropriate.”

“Someone was screaming obscenities in a rage, and the President appropriately responded with a firm rebuke,” said White House Communications Director Steven Cheung in a statement.

The Washington Post identified the heckler as TJ Sabula, 40, a worker at the plant, according to a separate report by CNN. Sabula has been suspended from his job pending an investigation, but stated he has no regrets.

“After yelling at him, I don’t regret it at all,” Sabula told The Washington Post.

The incident comes as Trump faces calls for the release of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with whom he once had a relationship.

Epstein, a prominent American financier, died by apparent suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving underage girls. His death has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories.

Trump recently approved legislation to allow the public release of documents from the Epstein case. However, the U.S. Department of Justice under the Trump administration failed to meet a December 19th deadline to release all of the documents.
