The United Kingdom is developing a new ballistic missile with a range exceeding 310 miles intended for bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities, the British government announced.

Dubbed “Project Nightfall,” the initiative will function as a competition between three industrial groups, each receiving £9 million (approximately $11.1 million USD) for one year of development.

The missiles are designed to carry warheads weighing up to 440 pounds and are capped at a cost of £800,000 (roughly $9.9 million USD) per unit.

According to a government press release, the project also aims to strengthen the UK’s domestic defense industry.

The development of this new missile system comes as Ukraine continues to seek advanced weaponry from its allies to counter the ongoing Russian invasion, and highlights the sustained international support for Kyiv’s defense efforts.

Officials stated the missiles will be capable of delivering substantial firepower, while the competitive bidding process is intended to foster innovation and cost-effectiveness within the UK’s defense sector.
