Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia, on the night of April 15-16, 2026, sparking a fire at the facility and causing damage to infrastructure.

The attack occurred in Krasnodar Krai, with local residents reporting explosions during the drone incursion. Video shared on social media showed the refinery engulfed in flames and smoke, according to posts on platform X.

Emergency responders deployed 157 personnel and 49 firefighting units to contain the blaze at the oil terminal, regional authorities said. Two individuals were injured in the incident, including the captain of a Liberian-flagged tanker docked in territorial waters, who was hospitalized after sustaining injuries.

The Tuapse refinery is one of Russia’s ten largest oil processing facilities, situated approximately 75 kilometers northeast of Sochi. Ukrainian forces have periodically targeted energy infrastructure in the Tuapse area, with similar attacks reported in November 2025 that disrupted operations and damaged at least one tanker vessel.

Even as regional officials confirmed damage to technical equipment and the tanker, they could not verify claims of civilian casualties or damage to residential areas, which were mentioned in unverified social media reports.

The incident underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Russian energy infrastructure to cross-border drone strikes amid the protracted conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
