‘Undead Unluck’ Anime to Receive One-Hour Holiday Special
A one-hour special for the television anime adaptation of Yoshifumi Tozuka’s Undead Unluck manga is scheduled to air on December 25 on MBS and TBS and their affiliates.
The special will feature a completely original story penned by Tozuka himself, who also designed a new UMA (Unidentified Mysterious Animal) creature for the episode. Two new cast members have been announced: Kenshō Ono will voice Tella, a subordinate of Billy, and Takehito Koyasu will voice Balance, an original character described as an UMA who maintains world balance. Returning cast members include Moe Kahara as Fuuko Izumo, Yūichi Nakamura as Andy, Mariya Ise as Juiz, Rikiya Koyama as Billy, and Tomokazu Sugita as Apocalypse.
Sunghoo Park, known for his work on Jujutsu Kaisen, is directing the special and handling storyboards at E&H production. Yamato Haishima returns to write the screenplay, and Hideyuki Morioka is back as character designer alongside Shun’ichi Ishimoto. Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music, and UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS is producing and planning the anime, with cooperation from david production, the studio behind the first season. The initial anime run, which concluded in March, has been available for streaming on Hulu.
Undead Unluck centers on Fuuko Izumo, a girl cursed with the ability to bring misfortune to anyone she touches, and Andy, an immortal man seeking death. The manga concluded its serialization in January, with 27 compiled volumes released, and garnered recognition including a spot on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2021 list. Officials stated the special aims to provide a satisfying continuation for fans following the manga’s conclusion.
