Brazil’s school-based vaccination campaign is underway, aiming to immunize 27 million students by April 30, according to the Ministry of Health. The initiative, which began on April 24, targets children and adolescents aged 9 months to 15 years with six vaccines: HPV, yellow fever, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), meningococcal ACWY, and COVID-19. The campaign extends HPV vaccination to youth aged 15 to 19 who have not yet been immunized. The effort is part of the National School Health Program (PSE), a collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Education. Vaccinations are administered by trained health professionals and require parental or guardian consent. Officials emphasize the importance of updating immunization records to reverse declining vaccination rates observed in recent years, a trend exacerbated by the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. To support tracking and adherence, the government is promoting the Digital Child Vaccination Record, available through the Meu SUS Digital app. Launched in April 2025, the tool has recorded over 3.3 million accesses and now includes automated reminders for upcoming doses based on the child’s age. Health authorities say this feature helps families stay on schedule with routine immunizations. The campaign runs through April 30, with health teams operating in public schools nationwide. By focusing on school settings, officials aim to improve access and equity in vaccine delivery, particularly for underserved communities. The Ministry of Health confirmed that in 2025, all childhood vaccines in the national schedule showed improved coverage compared to 2022 levels, signaling progress in rebuilding public trust in immunization programs.
