A health crisis has led to a series of professional setbacks for Czech actress Vilma Cibulková. After a recent collapse and subsequent medical issues, Cibulková has been replaced in both her television role in the popular series Polabí by Klára Cibulková and in the stage production of Růžové svatby by Světlana Nálepková. Now, the actress is as well unable to complete the audiobook recording of Ivan Fíly’s Tisíc očí, with the publisher seeking a replacement.

The actress’s health struggles began with a psychological collapse, which she initially attributed to Lyme disease. She then disappeared from public view for a period of time. “During the final stages of recording, she became seriously ill. Unfortunately, her health does not allow her to complete the function she had begun,” a statement from publisher OneHotBook explained.
Given Cibulková’s history with alcohol, speculation arose as to whether that played a role in her current inability to work. Though, a marketing manager for OneHotBook dismissed those claims. “I apologize, but be specific. Ms. Cibulková has an illness that prevents her from coming to the studio. It is not related to any of the issues that have been addressed in the media in the past,” Ivan D. Hladík told local media.
One setback after another
Cibulková’s role as Olga in Polabí was quickly filled by Klára Cibulková. The Strašnické Theatre also found itself in a tough position, searching for a replacement for the actress in the production of Růžové svatby. Despite colleagues’ attempts to reach her, Cibulková remained unresponsive, leading the theater to cast Světlana Nálepková in the role. The situation ultimately led to the cancellation of another performance, Královny, which had been scheduled for February 17th at the Divadlo Palace. “It is canceled without a replacement and money will be refunded to your account; cash payments will be refunded at the point of purchase,” the theater announced.
