Willetton Warehouse Proposed for Transformation into Virtual Reality Gaming Facility

A development application has been lodged to convert a warehouse on Kembla Way in Willetton, Western Australia, into a modern gaming facility featuring virtual reality and interactive motion-based games.

The proposal, submitted to the City of Canning, seeks to change the property’s use from ‘warehouse/storage’ to ‘recreation – private’. Proponents describe the planned facility as a space where participants can engage in “physically active gaming experiences, such as virtual reality, augmented reality and interactive motion-based games.” They added, “The space is designed to promote physical activity, entertainment, and social interaction in a safe, supervised environment.”

Plans developed by Cobu Designs detail five active gaming rooms, alongside a reception and foyer, staff room, kitchen, and toilet facilities. Located at 26 Kembla Way, the site is adjacent to Uniform Concepts, a school uniform supplier, potentially attracting a student clientele. Currently occupied by The Fashion Firm, a wholesale fashion agent, the proposed operating hours are Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 10pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 10pm, with a maximum capacity of 20 customers and one employee on site. This type of entertainment venue is becoming increasingly popular as the virtual reality market continues to expand.

Residents have until 5pm tomorrow, October 10, to provide feedback on the development application through the City of Canning’s Your Say Canning website. The City of Canning will review the feedback before making a decision on the proposal.

A development proposal in Willetton is set to be a game-changer, with plans to turn a humble warehouse on Kembla Way into a modern gaming facility featuring virtual reality.

The proponents behind the venture have lodged a development application with the City of Canning to change the use of the property from ‘warehouse/storage’ to ‘recreation – private’.

They say it will become a “modern indoor facility where participants engage in physically active gaming experiences, such as virtual reality , augmented reality and interactive motion-based games”.

“The space is designed to promote physical activity, entertainment, and social interaction in a safe, supervised environment,” they added.

Plans submitted by Cobu Designs show five active gaming rooms, as well as a reception and foyer, staff room, kitchen and toilets.

The site at 26 Kembla Way is also sure to attract the attention of potential school-aged customers, being located next to Uniform Concepts, which supplies uniforms to schools from throughout the district.

It currently houses wholesale fashion agent The Fashion Firm.

The proposed operating hours are Mondays to Fridays 3pm to 10pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 10pm.

The maximum number of customers planned at any one time is 20, with just one employee proposed to be on site.

Residents have until 5pm tomorrow, October 10, to have their say on the proposal at yoursaycanning.com.au.
