The image featuring Moura, a frontrunner for recognition for his work in O Agente Secreto (The Agent), has already garnered 278,000 likes – significantly more than posts featuring other industry heavyweights like Anya Taylor-Joy, Michael B. Jordan, and Stellan Skarsgård.

The surge in engagement echoes the viral moment created by a photo of Fernanda Torres at the same event, which currently boasts nearly 3 million likes.

More on O Agente Secreto

Set in Recife, Brazil, in 1977, the film follows Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a technology expert who returns home seeking peace, only to discover a city rife with hidden dangers and unsettling secrets.

O Agente Secreto offers a compelling look at Brazilian society and politics in the 1970s, exploring themes of political repression, restricted rights, and the use of technology for totalitarian control. The film’s exploration of these themes resonates with contemporary discussions about surveillance and power.

The thriller’s cast also includes Maria Fernanda Cândido, Gabriel Leone, Carlos Francisco, Alice Carvalho, Roberto Diogenes, Hermila Guedes, and Udo Kier, known for his role in Bacurau. The film is directed and written by Kleber Mendonça Filho.

At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, O Agente Secreto achieved a historic win, with Kleber Mendonça Filho taking home the award for Best Director and Wagner Moura receiving the Best Actor prize. The film also earned the Cinema of Art and Industry Award and the FIPRESCI critics’ prize.

O Agente Secreto is currently playing in theaters in Brazil, distributed by Vitrine Filmes.
