Taiwanese actress and host Wang Li-ren has sparked conversation after appearing on the SWAG platform, known for its adult content, and openly discussing her financial struggles. The 49-year-old, who rose to fame in the early 2000s with a role in the popular Taiwanese drama Spicy Teacher, has faced a series of challenges in recent years, including debt and business setbacks.
According to reports, Wang Li-ren’s recent foray into livestreaming involved revealing outfits and interactions with male performers, drawing both support, and criticism. The actress reportedly removed a robe and sports bra during a broadcast, accepting a massage from a male performer and demonstrating yoga poses. This move comes as she works to pay off a debt exceeding 10 million New Taiwan dollars.
The debt stems from a prior business venture and a decision to act as a guarantor for a friend’s restaurant, which ultimately led to the friend fleeing with funds. To address her financial difficulties, Wang Li-ren transitioned to livestreaming and gained attention for selling products, including a hair dryer while appearing to not be wearing a bra.
Wang Li-ren’s personal life has too been in the spotlight. She and her husband, actor Lin Tsung-hsuan, finalized their divorce several months ago after nearly four years of marriage. The relationship, from its unconventional proposal – a ring made of toilet paper – to disagreements over finances and family matters, reportedly faced numerous challenges. Lin Tsung-hsuan allegedly proposed with a ring made of toilet paper, without a diamond or honeymoon, and the couple never held a formal wedding ceremony.
“I just do this thing very casually, I didn’t expect it to cause so much attention,” Wang Li-ren said regarding her livestreaming activities. She emphasized that she has always remained in the entertainment industry and expressed a desire to return to acting. She also revealed that she previously attempted in-vitro fertilization but was unsuccessful.
Actor Kuo Tzu-chien offered a measured perspective on Wang Li-ren’s choices, stating, “She likes to do it this way.” The actress’s willingness to embrace new platforms and address her financial situation directly has resonated with some fans, while others have questioned her methods. This situation highlights the evolving landscape of celebrity and the increasing use of direct-to-fan platforms for income generation.
