Bridgeport Breaks Ground on First Hotel in Five Years at Steelpointe Harbor

Bridgeport, CT – Construction began today on a new Residence Inn by Marriott at Steelpointe Harbor, ending a five-year period without hotel accommodations in Connecticut’s largest city and signaling a renewed push for economic development along the waterfront.

The True North Hotel Group, partnering with RCI Group, commenced the project with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Governor Ned Lamont, DECD Commissioner Daniel O’Keefe, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim, and other regional leaders. Developer Bobby Christoph Jr., president of RCI Group, stated, “Today marks another major step forward for Steelpointe Harbor and for Bridgeport… This new Residence Inn by Marriott reflects our long-term commitment to Bridgeport’s growth and to Connecticut’s economic future.”

The six-story hotel will feature 142 rooms offering views of Steelpointe Marina, along with direct access to I-95, MetroNorth, and Amtrak rail lines, and even pickleball courts. Construction is anticipated to take 18-20 months. The absence of a hotel in Bridgeport since the 2022 closure of the downtown Holiday Inn has been a noted impediment to attracting business travelers and event attendees. The new hotel is expected to generate significant revenue for the city through tourism and related spending, according to a recent report by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.

“As we continue our work to revitalize our waterfront with local partners, I’m proud to say that we’re not only revamping this space for Bridgeport residents to enjoy, but we are also opening ourselves to more tourism,” said Mayor Ganim. Governor Lamont added, “This hotel will bring much-needed lodging to the Bridgeport region… and will enhance our efforts to grow the economic vitality of our state’s largest city.” You can learn more about the Steelpointe Harbor development on its official website.

Officials anticipate the completed hotel will be a key component in attracting further investment and development to the Steelpointe Harbor area.
