Winkelman and Holz Elected to Lead Jefferson City Council and Greene County School Board
New leadership was chosen in yesterday’s city and school elections in Greene County, with Luke Winkelman and Megan Holz emerging as top vote-getters in their respective races.
Luke Winkelman secured the most votes in the Jefferson City Council race, receiving 866 out of 1,168 ballots cast for the three contested seats, according to the Greene County Auditor’s Office. He will join incumbents Harry Ahrenholtz and Darren Jackson on the council in January. Winkelman expressed a mix of emotions upon learning of his victory, stating, “First one being disbelief. Second one obviously, quite a bite of excitement…and then the third one was a very sobering realization that the city has placed a tremendous amount of trust in me and it’s now my responsibility to live up to that trust.” These changes to the city council come as Jefferson faces increasing pressure to address infrastructure improvements and manage growth.
On the Greene County School Board, Megan Holz garnered 1,081 votes, leading all candidates. She will be joined by fellow newcomer Katie Nelson and current Board President Cindi Daubendiek. Holz conveyed her gratitude to voters, saying, “I’d like to give them a big ‘thanks,’ especially anyone who did cast a vote for me. But I’d like to tell everyone regardless of if they voted for me or not, that I will strive everyday to make our school and community the best that it can be.” Greene County Schools have been consistently ranked above average in the state.
Both Winkelman and Holz emphasized their commitment to serving the community and representing the interests of their constituents. Officials stated that the new council members and school board members will begin preparations for their roles immediately, with swearing-in ceremonies scheduled for later this month and in January.
