A new Xbox mode is rolling out to Windows 11 PCs, bringing a console-inspired gaming experience to laptops, desktops, and tablets. The update, announced on April 30, 2026, aims to streamline the PC gaming experience, offering a more immersive and controller-optimized interface.
The new Xbox mode is designed for players who want their games to capture center stage, minimizing background distractions and providing easy access to their game library and recently played titles. This move reflects the ongoing effort to create a consistent Xbox experience across different devices, acknowledging the growing popularity of PC gaming and handheld gaming PCs.
According to a release, Xbox mode offers a streamlined interface that puts your library and recently played titles within easy reach while minimizing background distractions. With the new mode, users can browse and launch games using a controller-optimized interface, seamlessly switch between Xbox mode and the Windows 11 desktop, and access an aggregated game library including titles from Xbox Game Pass and other PC storefronts.
The rollout of Xbox mode begins in select markets and will expand to more players in those regions over the coming weeks. This phased approach allows for monitoring and refinement based on user feedback, a strategy the company has employed previously with Windows handhelds.
In addition to Xbox mode, April’s update includes enhancements for the ROG Xbox Ally. Xbox Insiders using the ROG Xbox Ally X can now preview Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR), which delivers 1440p-like detail and smooth framerates when docked and connected to an external display. Users can control Auto SR application through Game Bar integration. Docked play will also default to TV displays with the update.
These updates represent a continued investment in improving the PC gaming experience and bridging the gap between console and PC platforms. Further details are available on Xbox Wire.
