University of Nebraska-Lincoln Announces 40 New Engineering Academy Scholars

Forty first-year students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Engineering have been selected for the 2025-26 cohort of the Peter Kiewit Foundation Engineering Academy, a program designed to cultivate the next generation of Nebraska’s engineering leaders.

The incoming scholars, representing campuses in both Lincoln and Omaha, will receive full tuition, fees, housing, and meals for up to four years, along with a $600 book stipend and a laptop. The academy emphasizes a “Complete Engineer” approach, integrating hands-on experiential learning with traditional coursework. Students will participate in cohort-specific seminars and receive dedicated success coaching. This investment aims to address the growing demand for skilled engineers and technical professionals in the state.

The students represent a diverse range of intended majors, including architectural, biological systems, chemical, civil, computer, construction, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering, as well as software engineering. A full list of students, organized by hometown, is available here. The Peter Kiewit Foundation, established by philanthropist Peter Kiewit, has awarded over $750 million in grants and scholarships since 1979, focusing on supporting charitable projects in Nebraska and surrounding areas, as detailed on the foundation’s website.

Academy officials stated the program also prioritizes increasing gender diversity and fostering a sense of belonging within the engineering fields. The new cohort will begin their studies this fall, with the program continuing to support students throughout their academic journey.
