From Scrap to Sanctuary: Couple Transforms 1985 Bus Into a Luxury ‘Walking Palace’
A piece of municipal scrap destined for the junkyard has been reimagined as a high-end mobile sanctuary, proving that with enough patience and vision, any vehicle can become a home. In a stunning transformation, Serkan and Rukiye Bozdağ, a couple from Antalya, have successfully turned a 1985 model municipal bus into what is being described as a “Walking Palace.”
The project was far more than a spontaneous DIY venture; it was the culmination of a 31-year dream for the couple. What began as a vehicle rotting in a scrapyard, waiting to be dismantled for parts, was instead rescued and meticulously overhauled over the course of three and a half years.
The interior of the 1985 model bus has been redesigned as a functional “1+1” home, blending luxury with mobility. The couple spent 3.5 years converting the 1+1 living space into a sophisticated environment, ensuring that no detail was overlooked in the transition from public transport to private residence.
This ambitious renovation highlights a growing global trend toward alternative living and sustainable “van life,” where oversized vehicles are repurposed into eco-friendly, nomadic homes. By saving the bus from becoming scrap metal, the Bozdağs have created a sustainable lifestyle hub that allows them to travel without sacrificing the comforts of a traditional house.
With the renovations now complete, the couple is preparing to take their creation on the road. According to reports, they are currently preparing for a tour of Europe, turning their lifelong dream of travel and independence into a reality.
