A Bulgarian lawmaker is alleging that provocateurs infiltrated recent protests organized by the “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) coalition, aiming to disrupt what were otherwise peaceful demonstrations. Kalin Stoyanov, a member of parliament from the “DPS-New Beginning” party, made the claim on Facebook, sparking a political back-and-forth.
Stoyanov asserted that the intent of these individuals was to endanger the lives and health of police officers and gendarmes. He cited instances of vandalism, arson, damaged vehicles, and property destruction, as well as potential injuries to both law enforcement and protesters. “This has nothing to do with a peaceful protest; these are deliberate actions by prepared groups of people,” he wrote.
The lawmaker challenged those he referred to as “yellow-paved experts” – seemingly critics who previously suggested a connection between the Ministry of Interior and DPS-New Beginning – to explain how the reported violence aligns with their narrative.
Stoyanov alleges that PP-DB, in conjunction with individuals associated with President Rumen Radev, deployed provocateurs who instigated unrest in the capital. He expressed hope that Denkov is satisfied with the radicalization of the protest, for which he personally appealed. Leaders of PP-DB, he continued, are now seeking resignations and shifting blame, while Radev is allegedly seeking early elections.
Stoyanov drew parallels to a similar incident two years prior during protests against the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFS). He claimed that associates of President Radev from the city of Plovdiv orchestrated a comparable provocation, utilizing football fan groups and, allegedly, some police officials who were following orders from those involved.
He characterized the current situation as a repeat of a familiar pattern: deliberately creating chaos and tension, deflecting blame, and attempting to undermine trust in law enforcement institutions.
Stoyanov concluded his post with strong support for the officers of the Ministry of Interior, praising their dedication to duty despite the risks involved.
