JOURNALISTUpdated:
The world of soccer focused its attention on Washington D.C. Friday for the draw of the 2026 North American World Cup, where national teams learned their paths to the tournament.
Prior to the event, soccer legends and prominent figures from the international game walked the red carpet at the Kennedy Center.
All eyes were on special guest and United States President Donald Trump.
The President arrived smiling and warmly greeted the international press, taking questions from media outlets around the world, including Colombian reporters.
It was to RCN television that Trump offered a heartfelt greeting to Colombia, declaring “I love Colombia,” with a smile alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Trump, who is set to receive FIFA’s Peace Prize, also spoke of his enjoyment of soccer, admitting he once played the sport, though not at a professional level.
Upon his arrival Friday, Trump stated that the United States is “prepared” to host the tournament alongside Mexico and Canada. “We are prepared for this,” he said.
