BK Häcken has transferred Alice Bergström to Liverpool. The 22-year-old midfielder, coming off a Swedish Damallsvenskan title and a national team call-up, is making the move to the Women’s Super League.
During her two seasons with BK Häcken, Bergström showcased her versatility, playing multiple positions while becoming a fan favorite – even earning her own supporter’s chant.
“I will carry that with me for a long time,” said Bergström, now embarking on a new chapter playing abroad.
“We have Alice Bergström
She runs down the wing
Faster than anyone
And scores every time”
That’s what the fans at BK Häcken have been singing since she joined from Djurgården ahead of the 2024 season. Sport Director Christian Lundström described her then as a “unique player in Swedish football,” a prediction that proved accurate.
Bergström’s impact was particularly evident this year, with her incisive runs and pinpoint passes leading to ten assists and three goals in the OBOS Damallsvenskan.
“It feels like it went by in a second, like we just started and now it’s over, and here we are with an SM gold,” she reflected. “2025 has been the best year of my life, in every way, and we’ve had so much fun.”
Bergström credits the environment at BK Häcken and her teammates for her success.
“I’ve loved being here every day, training and hanging out with them. I also have to mention Mak [Lind]. He’s been incredible for the whole team, of course, but also for me personally, and has helped me a lot. He saw something in me that I didn’t believe in myself.”
Lind recognized a player capable of contributing in multiple roles – and her defensive abilities grew significantly, earning her a nomination for ‘Back of the Year’ in the OBOS Damallsvenskan this season.
BK Häcken’s Head of Football, Martin Ericsson, praised her development.
“Alice has shown an impressive development in a new position, one we didn’t necessarily foresee. She has dominated many matches with her superior physicality and pace, and has grown into that role throughout the season. She’s also a very empathetic person who has contributed a lot to the team spirit.”
Bergström’s performances attracted attention from several clubs, and BK Häcken has now agreed to a transfer with Liverpool.
“This is an investment and a development that leads to results and a significant sale. That’s exactly how we want our model to work. It will be very exciting to follow Alice’s development, and we thank her for her time with us,” said Ericsson.
Throughout her time in Gothenburg, Alice Bergström enjoyed strong support from the club’s fans, who consistently cheered and sang her name during matches.
“That meant a lot to me and the whole team, and gave us a lot of energy during the matches. It’s also special to have your own song, and that’s something I’ll carry with me for a long time.”
During her time at BK Häcken, Bergström won the OBOS Damallsvenskan title twice, reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Europa Cup, and earned her first call-up to the Swedish national team. She made a total of 79 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing 23 assists. Now, a new adventure awaits in the WSL.
“It’s a mix of emotions. It’s been a dream to play abroad, but it’s also bittersweet to leave. Knowing what you have and not what you’ll get is a little tough, but I’m sure it will be very good,” she said.
