BK Häcken of the Swedish Damallsvenskan has advanced to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s europa Cup following a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan in the second leg of their qualifying tie. The team will now await the outcome of matches between Iceland’s Breidablik and Denmark’s Fortuna Hjörring to learn their quarterfinal opponent.

Just days after lifting the Swedish league title in Gothenburg, BK Häcken traveled to Italy and secured a 0-0 draw against Inter in a crucial Europa Cup qualifying match.

The result was enough to propel the Swedish champions into the next stage of the European competition, which will continue next year.

“It feels really good, of course. It was a goal we all had, and it’s important for the club and all the players to play in Europe,” Alice Bergström told SVT Sport after the advancement.

Häcken came closest to opening the scoring in the first half, with Monica Jusu Bah delivering a dangerous cross that the Inter goalkeeper misjudged. The ball struck the post but was ultimately cleared away.

Anvegård Nearly Breaks the Deadlock

Forward Anna Anvegård, recently called up to the national team, also came close to finding the back of the net with two threatening attempts on goal.

“It’s a very good feeling. We’ve had two big celebrations for the SM gold. We were tired, so it felt extra good to get through this match and advance,” she said to SVT Sport.

Inter pressed for a goal in the second half, but Häcken’s defense held firm, securing their place in the next round of the Europa Cup. This result marks a significant achievement for the Swedish side, demonstrating their ability to compete on the European stage.

Inter’s Olivia Schough missed both legs of the tie after a peculiar injury sustained in training.

In the quarterfinals, Häcken will face either Iceland’s Breidablik or Denmark’s Fortuna Hjörring.

Those matches are scheduled for February 11-12 and February 18-19 next year.
