Brazilian authorities are investigating the disappearance of a family of three from Cachoeirinha, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with the case taking a critical turn following the discovery of blood evidence at one of the missing woman’s homes. Silvana Germann de Aguiar, 48, was first reported missing January 24th, prompting a search that extended to her parents, Isail and Dalmira Germann de Aguiar, both in their 70s, who have also been unaccounted for as January 25th. While police have ruled out kidnapping, the investigation is now focused on potential homicide or unlawful imprisonment as forensic teams analyze evidence collected from the family’s residences.
Brazilian authorities are investigating the disappearance of three members of the same family in Cachoeirinha, a city in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The case, which began in late January, has taken a troubling turn with the discovery of blood evidence at the home of one of the missing women.
Police discovered traces of blood inside a bathroom and in an outdoor area at the residence of Silvana Germann de Aguiar, 48, on Thursday, February 5. Silvana was first reported missing on January 24.
Her parents, Isail Vieira de Aguiar, 69, and Dalmira Germann de Aguiar, 70, have not been seen since January 25, according to police. The family owns a market in Cachoeirinha, which has been closed since their disappearance.
Investigators found a firearm cartridge at the parents’ home, but the property was otherwise orderly and clean, said Delegate Anderson Spier. The investigation is currently being treated as a potential crime, with police focusing on possibilities of homicide or unlawful imprisonment.
Authorities have ruled out kidnapping, as no ransom demands have been made. So far, police have interviewed at least ten people, including Silvana’s ex-husband, who was with the couple’s 9-year-old son during the weekend the family vanished.
Details of the Disappearance
Silvana initially reported a traffic accident on social media on January 24, following a trip to Gramado, a city in the Serra Gaúcha region. She later posted a message thanking people for their prayers. Her cell phone has been switched off and she has not been in contact with anyone since.
Concerned by the social media posts, Silvana’s parents began searching for her on January 25. They visited a local police station, but it was closed for the Sunday holiday. They were then also reported missing.
The disappearance of Silvana was reported by her ex-husband, while her parents’ absence was reported by a niece. Police have determined that Silvana’s reported car accident did not occur, and her vehicle was found in the garage of her home with the keys inside.
Security camera footage from the night of the disappearance shows suspicious activity at Silvana’s house. A red car arrived at approximately 8:30 p.m. and left eight minutes later. Silvana’s vehicle then arrived and entered the garage at 9:28 p.m. Another car arrived at 11:30 p.m., remaining for about 12 minutes before departing.
Investigators have not yet confirmed whether Silvana was driving her own car, or identified the drivers of the other vehicles. Police are also considering the possibility that the two additional vehicles were the same one. The case underscores the challenges investigators face when relying on limited evidence and piecing together timelines.
Forensic analysis is currently underway, and authorities are awaiting the results.
“The investigations are ongoing, with all appropriate measures being taken to clarify the facts, identify the method of execution, the motivation, and any potential suspects,” the Civil Police stated.
