The Game Bakers to Expand ‘Cairn’ with Free DLC Update

Players will soon be able to push their limits even further on the slopes of Mount Kami, as The Game Bakers have announced a free DLC expansion for their simulation adventure, Cairn. This update aims to extend the journey for those navigating the treacherous peaks of the game’s central mountain.

Released on January 29, 2026, for Windows and PlayStation 5, Cairn places players in the role of Aava, a professional mountaineer. The title distinguishes itself through a high degree of simulation, requiring players to manually control each of Aava’s limbs to navigate the terrain, a mechanic designed to mirror the physical demands of real-world climbing.

The experience is further deepened by survival elements that force players to manage Aava’s temperature, thirst, and hunger. These challenges are compounded by a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle, both of which directly impact the difficulty of the ascent. To achieve this level of authenticity, the development team consulted with professional alpinists and visited the Aiguille du Midi.

Developed using the Unity engine with a budget of €5 million, Cairn serves as the conclusion to The Game Bakers’ “trilogy on freedom,” following their previous titles Furi and Haven. The project was heavily inspired by the manga series The Summit of the Gods and various climbing documentaries.

The introduction of free post-launch content highlights a growing trend in the simulation genre to increase game longevity and accessibility. By expanding the playable experience without additional cost, the studio reinforces its goal of creating a challenging yet inclusive climbing simulation.
