Former FSU Transfer Marvin Jones Jr. Sees Limited Production at Oklahoma
Oklahoma defensive lineman Marvin Jones Jr., who transferred from Florida State University last year, is currently exhibiting a level of production that does not yet match his performance with the Seminoles.
Jones Jr. was heavily recruited by FSU out of high school as a five-star recruit and legacy prospect, but initially committed to Georgia. After two seasons with the Bulldogs, he entered the transfer portal and joined Florida State in 2024, seeking a more significant role. While with the Seminoles, Jones Jr. recorded six tackles for loss and four sacks, but reports indicated inconsistent effort during practices and games.
He entered the transfer portal again after one season and landed with the Sooners. Through the current season, Jones Jr. has four tackles for loss and one sack, a pace that appears unlikely to surpass his 2024 statistics at FSU. This situation highlights the challenges of utilizing the NCAA transfer portal to quickly fill roster needs.
The Seminoles had hoped Jones Jr. would replicate the success of previous transfer additions like Jermaine Johnson and Jared Verse, but his time in Tallahassee was ultimately brief. Oklahoma officials have not yet commented on Jones Jr.’s performance, and the team is focused on its upcoming game against West Virginia on November 2nd.
