Capitals’ Brandon Duhaime Scares Teammates with Halloween Prank
Washington Capitals forward Brandon Duhaime startled his teammates today with an elaborate Halloween prank involving a werewolf costume and a fake machete at the team’s Arlington, Virginia, practice facility.
Duhaime hid inside an oversized box and jumped out to frighten arriving players, capturing a series of reactions on video. Head coach Spencer Carbery, who was initially spared, later enjoyed the footage alongside fans. “Watched it this morning,” Carbery told reporters. “Had to watch it again because it was hilarious. That stuff never gets old, especially the early morning stuff where you’re catching people off guard.” An extended cut of the video revealed Duhaime had attempted to prank Carbery as well, saying, “Hey, go get Carbs. That’d be —” while miming a shocked expression.
The prank, which was likely coordinated with the Capitals’ digital media team, drew particular attention to defenseman Martin Fehervary’s stoic reaction. Carbery noted Fehervary’s lack of visible response, mimicking a tense posture and commenting on the varied ways people react to surprise. Such team-building moments can contribute to improved on-ice chemistry, a crucial element for success in the competitive NHL.
Carbery anticipates retaliation from Duhaime’s teammates, adding, “And then the retaliation that Dewey faces after that. That’s — yeah, (the video) was funny.” Evidence of an immediate response surfaced this morning with a name tag affixed to Duhaime’s helmet. The Capitals are currently preparing for their next game against the Philadelphia Flyers on November 3rd.
Carbery indicated that any further responses to the prank will unfold internally within the team.
