Butler Bulldogs Dominate Early Season, Prepare for Chicago State
The Butler Bulldogs (2-0) are off to a strong start, averaging 100 points per game, and will host the Chicago State Cougars (0-2) tonight at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Butler’s impressive offensive performance is bolstered by strong rebounding, ranking sixth nationally with a +24.0 rebounding margin. Michael Ajayi has been a key contributor, recording back-to-back double-doubles – the first Bulldog to do so since November 2022 – and currently averaging 13.0 rebounds per game, placing him sixth in the nation. Yesterday’s 112-82 victory over IU Indy marked the Bulldogs’ highest point total since 2015, with five players scoring in double figures and ten scoring seven or more. This early success could position Butler as a contender in the Big East Conference.
Chicago State enters the game following road losses to DePaul and Saint Louis. Stephen Byard and Marcus Tankersley lead the Cougars, both averaging 15.5 points per game. Landon Bussie is in his first season as head coach, previously leading Alcorn State. Fans can learn more about college basketball standings and analysis at NCAA.com.
The game is scheduled for 7 PM EST and will be streamed on ESPN+, with radio coverage available on 92.7FM and the Butler Sports App. Following tonight’s game, Butler will embark on a three-game road trip, beginning with a contest at SMU on Saturday.
