Indian Family Completes 3,000km European Motorcycle Expedition
A father and son, along with two family friends, completed a challenging 3,000-kilometer motorcycle journey across seven European countries, navigating demanding terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.
The expedition, which began in May, took Nilesh Zoting, his son Archit, and friends Kedar Rajpathak and Ameya Pandit through Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia. The group started in Switzerland, collecting BMW and Honda adventure bikes in Munich before venturing into some of Europe’s most scenic, yet difficult, landscapes. The journey highlights a growing trend in adventure tourism, with travelers seeking more immersive and challenging experiences.
The ride wasn’t without its obstacles; Archit Zoting recounted a harrowing experience in Slovenia where the extreme cold caused him to lose feeling in his fingers. “On our way to Slovenia, the cold cut straight through my gloves. My fingers went numb, I couldn’t even feel the clutch,” he said. The group rallied to warm his hands using the heat from their bike engines. They explored locations like Croatia’s Biokovo Mountain and the abandoned Zeljava Air Base, a Cold War relic on the Croatia-Bosnia border. The travelers were particularly struck by the city of Mostar in Bosnia, describing it as a place where history feels palpable. “It’s not the Europe you see in travel brochures,” Kedar Rajpathak explained. “It’s raw and beautiful, with cobbled lanes, mosques, and bridges that survived wars. You feel the past still breathing there.” Nilesh Zoting emphasized the unique perspective offered by motorcycle travel, stating, “When you travel in a car, you’re inside a box, cut off from the world… But on a bike, you’re part of the landscape.” You can find more information about European travel routes at Lonely Planet Europe.
The group returned to Munich after their adventure, having forged a stronger connection through shared challenges and experiences. Officials stated they plan to share their detailed route and experiences to inspire others to explore Europe by motorcycle.
