Huntsville Community Holds Vigil for Father and Daughters Killed in Montana Plane Crash
The Huntsville, Alabama community gathered today at Milton Frank Stadium for a vigil honoring Mark Anderson and his daughters, Lainey and Ellie, who died in a plane crash in Montana last week.
Mark Anderson and his daughters were killed on Friday when their twin-engine Piper Aztec aircraft crashed in a remote area of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Flight data indicates the plane departed Billings, Montana, bound for Polson, maintaining an altitude above 12,000 feet before making a sudden turn and disappearing from radar around 4:15 p.m. local time. Search teams discovered the wreckage the following morning, and all three were pronounced dead at the scene; the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
Attendees at Wednesday’s event wore gold ribbons as a symbol of remembrance, and the vigil included music, prayer, and personal reflections. “Tonight was a meaningful opportunity for people to come together, share their experiences and prayers, and support the Anderson family during this tragic time,” said Ryan Renaud, Huntsville’s District 4 City Council representative. “While we respect their privacy, we can still celebrate the beautiful lives that Mark, Lainey, and Ellie lived.” A GoFundMe page has already raised over $160,000 to support the family.
Those who knew the family described them as exceptionally kind and generous, always extending warmth and support to others. A livestream of the prayer vigil is available here. Officials stated they will continue to offer support to the Anderson family as they navigate this difficult time.
