A Christmas Day dispute over fireworks in La Plata, Argentina, escalated into a fatal shooting early Thursday, leaving one man dead and another in custody. The incident underscores the potential for neighborly disagreements to turn deadly, even during holiday celebrations.

Daniel Néstor Rubén Ramírez, 45, was killed after a neighbor allegedly opened fire on his family as they set off fireworks, according to local reports from 0221. The shooting occurred around midnight in a residential complex located at the intersection of 609 and 4 streets.

Police say the argument began earlier in the day when Juan Carlos Magen, 68, complained about the noise from the fireworks being set off by Ramírez’s children. Neighbors reportedly told authorities that Magen had previously expressed his frustration with the use of pyrotechnics in the area.

As the celebrations continued into the early hours of Thursday, Magen allegedly fired a weapon from his apartment window toward Ramírez’s family, who were gathered outside. Ramírez was struck by at least two gunshots, one to the neck and another to the left shoulder, according to reports from the local news outlet.

Ramírez died at the scene, collapsing on a staircase within the apartment complex. The neck wound is believed to have been the most serious injury.
