FC Baník Ostrava has secured a significant boost to its attacking lineup with the signing of Václav Jurečka, a 31-year-old forward who recently ended his contract with Turkish club Rizespor. The club announced the transfer via its fan application, Chachar Pass, and Jurečka is expected to join training with the team on Saturday.
Jurečka previously played in the Czech First League a year and a half ago, departing Slavia Prague for Turkey as a two-time league leading scorer. His time abroad didn’t meet expectations, leading to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. During his tenure with Rizespor, he appeared in 46 matches and scored six goals.
“When we said we were looking for an experienced and goal-scoring forward, we had exactly this type of player in mind,” said Luděk Mikloško, Head of Sport at FC Baník Ostrava, in a statement on the club’s website. “Vašek perfectly fits that description. He’s been thoroughly tested in the Czech league, has represented the national team, has extensive experience from Slavia in tough league and cup matches, and has proven he can score in those games.”

Jurečka is eager to replicate his successful track record in the Czech league, where he scored 68 goals in 165 appearances while playing for Slavia, Slovácko, and his hometown club, Opava. His experience and finishing ability were key factors in Baník’s decision to sign him. This move highlights the importance of experienced players in bolstering a team’s offensive capabilities.
“I wanted to return to the Czech Republic,” Jurečka said on the club’s website. “I was in contact with Baník, the club owner reached out, and I felt a strong interest. Baník is one of the big clubs in the Czech Republic, with excellent fans. Plus, I live in Ostrava, which made everything easier. I’m ready to help Baník and I believe we’ll move up the table during the spring season.”
