The annual battle for video game sales supremacy is heating up, and this year, an unexpected contender has risen to the top. According to new data from industry analyst Mat Piscatella,Battlefield 6 is currently leading US video game sales for 2025,challenging the long-held dominance of Call of Duty. This marks a possibly significant shift in the market as industry observers predict Battlefield 6 will finish the year as the best-selling title in the United States, a title Call of Duty has consistently held for nearly two decades.

Battlefield 6 is currently leading US video game sales for 2025, according to data released by industry analyst Mat Piscatella. The title’s strong performance has led industry observers, like those at IGN, to predict it will finish the year as the top-selling game in the United States.

Battlefield 6 Outpaces Call of Duty

Since its release on October 11, Battlefield 6 has achieved record sales for the franchise. Piscatella’s data, shared on Bluesky, shows the game maintaining the number one position as of November 29. This success comes as the gaming industry continues to see blockbuster titles drive significant revenue.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest installment in the consistently best-selling Call of Duty series, launched on November 14 and immediately claimed the top spot in US game sales for that month.

Piscatella notes that the Call of Duty franchise has topped sales charts in its release month for the past 18 years. As of November 29, however, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had climbed to seventh place in the year-to-date rankings, according to Piscatella’s report.

Despite this strong monthly performance, IGN analysts believe Battlefield 6 has built a substantial lead that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will struggle to overcome in the remaining weeks of the year, potentially ending Call of Duty’s long-standing annual dominance.

Piscatella also reported that by the end of November, Battlefield 6 had surpassed sales figures for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (released in 2022), achieving the highest single-month US sales total in three years.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 achieved the number one ranking in US PlayStation Store downloads for November, its overall sales haven’t matched the momentum of Battlefield 6. The game was also simultaneously released on the Game Pass subscription service, which may have impacted traditional sales figures.

Piscatella highlighted on LinkedIn that November sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 were significantly lower than those of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in November 2024. The Game Business reported similar trends in European sales data.

All eyes are now on whether Battlefield 6 can maintain its lead through the end of 2025 and secure the top spot in annual US game sales.
