Despite late introductions of key players like Phil Foden, Jérémy Doku, Rayan Cherki, and Erling Haaland, Manchester City couldn’t find a way through a resolute Leverkusen defense. The result marks a significant win for the Bundesliga side and their manager, Kasper Hjulmand.

“I nevertheless think there is a huge margin for improvement. There is a lot of potential within this team, which is why I am very optimistic about the future.”

The win was Leverkusen’s second in the competition, moving them to 13th place in the standings with eight points. This result adds intrigue to the Champions League group stage as teams battle for qualification.

Guirassy Scores Twice

Elsewhere in Champions League action, Borussia Dortmund delivered a dominant performance, defeating Villarreal 4-0. Serhou Guirassy led the charge with a brace, boosting Dortmund’s chances of progressing in the tournament. The victory temporarily lifts Niko Kovac’s side to fourth place in the overall standings with ten points.

In other results, Chelsea defeated FC Barcelona 3-0, while Juventus secured a 3-2 victory away at Bodø/Glimt in Norway. Olympique de Marseille overcame Newcastle with a 2-1 win, thanks to a brace from veteran Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Naples beat Qarabag 2-0, Union Saint-Gilloise won 1-0 at Galatasaray, Benfica triumphed 2-0 over Ajax in Amsterdam, and Slavia Prague drew 0-0 with Athletic Bilbao.

Bayern Munich Aim for Five in a Row

The Champions League action continues on Wednesday with a highly anticipated clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Bayern, currently untouchable in the Bundesliga, has also won all four of their Champions League matches this season. Vincent Kompany’s Arsenal face a significant challenge against the in-form German giants.

Kompany expressed his excitement for the upcoming match, stating, “So far, we have achieved our goals and we hope that continues. But now, the biggest game of the season so far awaits us. I said that three or four weeks ago,” he told reporters.
