Virginia Cavaliers Defeat California Golden Bears 31-21
The Virginia Cavaliers secured a 31-21 victory over the California Golden Bears yesterday at California Memorial Stadium, improving their record to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in ACC play.
Kendrick Raphael led the Golden Bears with three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving on a 42-yard pass from tight end Mason Mini. Despite Raphael’s performance, which brings his season total to 11 touchdowns, Cal fell behind early and couldn’t overcome a late interception returned for a touchdown by Virginia with just 34 seconds remaining. The loss drops California to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The game saw career-high tackle performances from inside linebacker Aaron Hampton (15 tackles), defensive lineman Aidan Keanaaina (10 tackles), and defensive back Cam Sidney (9 tackles). Wide receiver Trond Grizzell also had a career day, recording eight receptions for 80 yards. This game was particularly significant as it came after star linebacker Cade Uluave was injured early in the game, forcing Hampton into extended playing time.
