A serious collision between two cyclists occurred Monday in Bernex, Switzerland. At 8:45 AM local time, a 16-year-old was riding along the bike path on Route de Chancy when a 51-year-old man on an electric bicycle, traveling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with him.

Both cyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the incident. However, as the 51-year-old fell, his head struck a passing vehicle, according to Henny Martinoni, a spokesperson for the cantonal police. “Unfortunately, in his fall, the head of the fifty-year-old was hit by a car driving at his height,” Martinoni stated. The man was airlifted to Geneva University Hospitals, where his condition is currently critical.

The teenager sustained minor injuries in the head-on collision. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise circumstances leading to the accident. The incident underscores the growing need for safety measures and awareness regarding e-bike usage and adherence to traffic regulations, particularly as micromobility solutions become increasingly prevalent in urban environments.
