A Garuda Indonesia first officer’s pre-flight encounter with rock icon Bryan Adams turned into a memorable evening after the singer extended a surprise concert invitation to the airline’s crew. The story, which went viral on the social platform Threads, details a chance meeting that led to an unforgettable night.

Adams is currently on his “Roll With The Punches” global tour, with a Jakarta stop scheduled for February 3, 2026. The unexpected connection unfolded before the concert, offering a glimpse into the artist’s generosity and the crew’s enthusiastic fandom.

Inggit Nariswari, the Garuda Indonesia first officer, was scheduled to fly from Jakarta to Bali and back on February 3rd when she unknowingly crossed paths with Adams. “So we landed in DPS (Denpasar) and had a two-hour transit. While waiting, I went out for coffee at Revolver. As I was heading back, I met this really tall Western man who asked where the Garuda Lounge was. I explained it to him and walked him in that direction because the gate was the same way,” she recalled on February 6, 2026.

Nariswari shared that they chatted during their walk, and the man was impressed to learn she was a female pilot – a first for him. He then mentioned he was traveling to Jakarta before returning to Canada.

Initially, Nariswari didn’t recognize her travel companion. It wasn’t until the flight’s passenger manifest was reviewed that the crew realized Bryan Adams was on board. “The first to notice were our cabin crew, the purser and FA 3 who handle the cockpit and Business class. We had a pretty long two-hour transit,” she continued.

A check with ground staff didn’t confirm the sighting, so the crew turned to Bryan Adams’ Instagram story for verification. Sure enough, the rock star was scheduled to perform that evening.

A longtime fan, Nariswari hoped for a photo opportunity, even just a quick selfie. The crew quickly devised a plan: the cabin crew would take photos first, followed by the pilot after the flight. “We wanted a group photo, but Bryan Adams said he didn’t have much time,” she said.

Nariswari set aside her hopes for a photo, focusing on the flight from Denpasar to Jakarta with Adams as a passenger. During the flight, flight attendants made several trips to the cockpit to offer service. On the last visit, a flight attendant shared that Adams had invited the entire crew to his concert. Nariswari was stunned, unsure if the invitation was genuine.

“Bryan himself said he didn’t have much time for photos. ‘Why don’t you just come to the concert?’ he said,” Nariswari recounted, relaying the flight attendant’s message.

Before landing, she went to the lavatory and overheard a conversation between a flight attendant and a passenger in Business class. A man was intently writing something down. “It turned out to be his manager. He even showed the FA that nine tickets had been reserved under the name ‘Captain Billy’,” she revealed.

After landing, photos were the priority. Nariswari greeted all passengers, including Adams, at the door. She described feeling starstruck, noting, “He has a real star aura. Even though he looks older, his charisma is just different.” She added that she’d met many artists during her decade in the air, but Adams’ presence was unique.

During the flight, she had encountered many singers and artists, but Bryan’s charm and charisma were unmatched. Sharing her story on Threads, Inggit admitted to trembling so much she forgot how to unlock her phone. “I was shaking so much when I tried to take a selfie, I couldn’t even unlock my phone! And he put his arm around me. So close!” she wrote.

The journey to the concert proved challenging. Despite having a busy schedule, including a therapy appointment, Nariswari didn’t want to miss the opportunity. She left at 8:00 PM, arriving at Beach City International Stadium (BCIS) around 10:00 PM. Using the code name “Captain Billy,” she was granted access to Zone Cat 1, the festival area directly in front of the stage.

“I couldn’t believe it when he started playing ‘Heaven’s.’ It felt like a free concert! It was still early in the show, as the concert didn’t end until around 11:30 PM,” Inggit exclaimed.

Unfortunately, not all of the crew could attend due to scheduling conflicts. Inggit and the crew members who did go brought their partners.

“Bryan Adams is literally so kind. We only met for about five minutes, but he gave us concert tickets in category one, not at the back somewhere. I still can’t believe we landed at 11 AM and he was performing at 8 PM,” she said, overcome with emotion.
