Canes Suffer First Loss of Season to Golden Knights in Vegas
The Carolina Hurricanes lost to the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 today, marking their first defeat of the 2025-2026 NHL season.
The game, played on October 21, 2025, saw the Golden Knights capitalize on early opportunities, though Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour felt his team competed well despite the score. “I didn’t mind the game. I thought we played pretty hard. They had a couple of fortunate bounces on the first two goals,” Brind’Amour said following the contest. “They made good plays after, that’s what they do. The talent level (for Vegas) is obviously off the charts. They capitalized.”
Captain Jordan Staal echoed the sentiment that a slow start proved costly. “Our first (period) wasn’t great,” Staal stated. “They got a few bounces, but I thought we made some tough plays with the puck and didn’t really get to our game, including myself.” The loss halts a strong start to the Hurricanes’ road trip, but the team remains poised to contend for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Despite the setback, Staal emphasized the importance of moving forward. “Obviously, it’s been a great start to the road trip. We ran into a really good team, had a slow start, and that was the end of the game,” he said. “We have a couple of days here to get the bodies right and the minds right and not let it creep into the next game.” The Hurricanes will now focus on their upcoming games against the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings to finish their West Coast swing. The Hurricanes will have two days to regroup before their next game.
