Charlie Woods Leads Team to Regional Golf Championship, Advances to State Finals
Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, carded a 1-over 72 today to propel The Benjamin School to victory at the Region 1-4A Championship at The Park West Palm, securing their place in the Florida Class 1A State Championship.
Woods’ performance, highlighted by a 20-foot birdie on the 18th hole, helped the Buccaneers finish four strokes ahead of defending state champions Oxbridge Academy. This regional win marks the team’s second consecutive title following their District 13-1A triumph last week, continuing a successful fall season for Benjamin. The team is now ranked as the top high school golf team in Florida according to the FHSAA’s iWanamaker rankings.
Despite challenging conditions with winds exceeding 25 mph, Woods demonstrated resilience, according to Benjamin head coach Toby Harbeck. “Charlie plays very emotional and he always has,” Harbeck told reporters. “He felt like he didn’t hit the ball very well today, and that’s understandable. But still, when you can grind it out and shoot 72 and not have your best stuff, that says a lot about your No. 1.” This victory is particularly significant as it offers the team another opportunity to compete for a state title after a near-miss last year. The 2025 Florida Class 1A State Championship will be held at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills from November 14-15. Earlier this season, Woods captured his first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational and also achieved a hole-in-one at TPC Sawgrass, further solidifying his position as a rising star in junior golf; you can find more about the AJGA here. Coach Harbeck expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform, stating they will focus on a strong start rather than relying on a comeback.
The team will now focus on preparing for the state championship, aiming to secure the title after coming close last year.
