Meghan Markle Returns to Acting with Cameo in New Comedy

Meghan Markle is making her return to acting with a cameo role in the upcoming comedy “Close Personal Friends,” marking her first on-screen appearance in over seven years.

The film, currently shooting in Los Angeles, stars Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, and Henry Golding. Also featured in the cast are Melissa Villaseñor, Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Patti Harrison, Jack Shalloo, and Dustin Demri-Burns. The story centers on a “regular” couple who form an unlikely friendship with a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara, leading to awkward and boundary-pushing situations.

Jason Orley is directing the film from a screenplay by Isaac Aptaker, based on a story they developed together. Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are producing. The team previously collaborated on the Amazon MGM rom-com “I Want You Back.” Markle previously starred in the television series “Suits” for seven seasons and appeared in films before marrying Prince Harry in 2018. She stated in 2016, when leaving “Suits,” “It’s a new chapter, right? I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

This return to acting comes as Markle continues her work with Archewell Productions, which has a first-look deal with Netflix, producing docuseries like “Polo” and “Live to Lead,” as well as her lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan.” The couple announced in 2020 they would step back from royal duties and split their time between Santa Barbara and the U.K., and this cameo signals a potential re-engagement with Markle’s earlier career. Amazon MGM had no comment on the project.
