Chevalier’s Books, Larchmont Buzz Announce Partnership

Los Angeles’ oldest independent bookstore, Chevalier’s Books, and the Larchmont Buzz, a hyperlocal news website, have formed a partnership aimed at strengthening community engagement and expanding local news coverage.

The collaboration will see Patricia Lombard, publisher of the Larchmont Buzz, take over Darryl Holter’s partnership stake in Chevalier’s Books, while Holter remains involved with the bookstore. Bert Deixler will continue in his current role. “Chevalier’s is excited to partner with a trusted news source that reaches so many of our customers and allows us to reach many more,” said Deixler. Lombard added, “This partnership is a natural step… It will allow us to expand our editorial content, establish a physical presence, and amplify the wonderful opportunities for engagement and community building.”

Founded in 1940 by J.W. “Joe” Chevalier as a lending library, Chevalier’s Books has evolved into a full-service general bookstore and a beloved landmark on Larchmont Boulevard. The Larchmont Buzz, established in 2011, currently serves over 20,000 monthly readers and is known for its comprehensive coverage of local events. This partnership comes at a crucial time for independent bookstores, as they navigate the challenges of a changing retail landscape and increased competition from online retailers like Amazon.

The two organizations will host a Spooktacular Storytime at the Larchmont Family Fair today, October 25, 2025, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm, featuring Halloween crafts and the introduction of new manager Pamela Christlieb, a bookseller with over 30 years of experience. More information about local events can be found on the Larchmont Buzz website.

Officials stated they anticipate the partnership will foster a stronger connection between local news and the literary community.
