West Seattle Experiences Widespread Power Outages and Road Closures Due to High Winds

Strong winds sweeping through the Seattle area today, October 26, 2025, caused numerous trees to fall, resulting in widespread power outages and multiple road closures across West Seattle.

The first reports began around 7:35 PM, with a tree down on a power line at 45th SW and SW Hemlock, impacting 117 homes. Police blocked streets in the area, which is a popular cut-through route. Further south, Ambaum Boulevard’s curves were also blocked by a fallen tree, requiring motorists to find alternate routes. As of 11:35 PM, Seattle City Light reported over 34,000 customers were without power across its service area, indicating the storm’s significant impact on the regional power grid.

Throughout the evening, reports continued to flood in, including a tree falling into a house in the 8300 block of 46th SW, and a vehicle becoming stranded after a downed power line landed on it near 26th SW and SW Findlay. Fortunately, the individual was safely removed from the car, but the incident caused further road closures. Additional downed trees were reported at locations including 26th SW and SW Juneau, California SW and SW Alaska, and the 6700 block of 21st SW, where at least two cars were reportedly struck. You can find safety information regarding power outages from the Seattle City Light website.

As of 1:36 AM, the winds had calmed considerably, but cleanup efforts are expected to continue throughout the day. The southbound side of California SW at Raymond was blocked by a fallen tree, and a low-hanging wire was reported on Admiral Way near the West Seattle Bridge. Officials anticipate it will take time to fully restore power to all affected areas. For updated road closure information, visit the Seattle Department of Transportation website.
