Iowa State Basketball Faces Injury Updates as Season Approaches
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones are navigating several key player injuries as they prepare for the 2025-26 men’s basketball season, which tips off November 3rd.
Star point guard Tamin Lipsey is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained during a recent fall practice while attempting a rebound, with a recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks. Updates have been positive, with Lipsey participating in pool work and light jogging as part of his rehabilitation. Transfer guard Mason Williams will unfortunately miss the entire season after undergoing hip surgery, though his spirits remain high. These injuries could significantly impact the team’s early-season chemistry and depth.
Forward Joshua Jefferson, a key player expected to take on a larger role this season, is progressing well from a wrist injury suffered over the summer. “It’s been going pretty well,” Jefferson said. “Just stacking good days on top of each other right now, getting my rhythm back. But I’ve been playing well. Staying healthy is a big thing with me right now.” Jefferson, named to the All-Big 12 Second Team last season, is expected to play almost exclusively at the power forward position this year, showcasing his shooting ability. Jefferson has also made a personal change, switching his jersey number back to No. 5, which he wore as a child. “Wearing it since I was about six years old,” Jefferson said. “Feel much more comfortable in this number.” The Cyclones are hoping a healthy and focused Jefferson will be a cornerstone of their success as they aim to improve on last season’s performance; you can find more information about the Iowa State Cyclones on Cyclone Alert.
Coaches anticipate continued positive progress from Lipsey and Jefferson as the season opener nears, and will continue to monitor their recovery closely.
