Senegal’s national electricity company, Senelec, has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Dakar on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The interruption is part of a larger effort to modernize and maintain the capital’s energy infrastructure, ensuring a more reliable power supply for residents and businesses.
The outage will focus on the Hann substation, but is not the result of an unexpected failure. Senelec officials state the operate is intended to strengthen and improve the overall quality of service.
The planned interruption will impact several neighborhoods and industrial areas, according to Senelec. Affected areas include Golf Nord, Hamo, Dalifort, and a portion of the Maristes district. Industries located along the Route de Rufisque, specifically in the Pikine and Dalifort sectors, will also be without power.
The power will be shut off from 8:00 a.m. To 4:00 p.m. Local time. Senelec chose a Sunday to minimize disruption to the work week, though industrial operations will be affected.
Senelec’s distribution team will be on site to oversee the maintenance work and restore power as quickly as possible once completed. The company has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the planned outage and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a stable electricity supply nationwide. This maintenance underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining aging infrastructure in rapidly developing urban centers.
Earlier this year, a major incident at the Hann electrical substation caused a widespread blackout in Dakar, temporarily disrupting the interconnected network of the Senegal River Basin Development Organization (OMVS). Details of that September 12, 2024 incident are available here.
