Pennsylvania Turnpike Eastbound Lanes Closed After Fatal Overnight Crash

A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike eastbound is closed this morning following a deadly incident in Beaver County.

The eastbound lanes between the New Castle interchange and the Cranberry interchange were shut down around 2:30 a.m. today, October 24, 2025, after a pedestrian was struck and killed near milepost 14 in North Sewickley Township. Pennsylvania State Police Troop T barracks in Gibsonia are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, but details remain limited at this time and the victim’s identity has not yet been released. This closure is impacting travel for commuters and truckers along a major East Coast corridor.

PennDOT has established a detour for motorists, directing traffic off the Turnpike at the New Castle interchange onto I-376 westbound, Route 422 eastbound, I-79 southbound, and back onto the Turnpike at the Cranberry interchange. For updated traffic conditions and detour information, visit 511PA. Understanding traffic patterns is crucial for safe travel; learn more about road safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Authorities have not yet announced a timeline for reopening the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike. Troopers continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the Pennsylvania State Police.
