Popular folk music performer Lupu Rednic has initiated a lawsuit against actor Cuzin Toma, widely known for his role as “Firicel” in the television series Las Fierbinți, over unpaid performance fees. Rednic alleges that the actor’s foundation, DACĂ EU POT, POŢI ȘI TU, failed to honor contractual obligations following a festival in Tulcea.
The Dispute Over Performance Fees in Tulcea
The conflict centers on a performance delivered by Lupu Rednic and his wife, Cornelia Rednic, at a festival organized under the aegis of a foundation owned by Cuzin Toma. According to reporting from Libertatea, the couple signed a formal contract for the event but encountered immediate difficulties when seeking payment upon its conclusion. The event in question was intended to promote cultural engagement, yet the financial breakdown has created a significant rift between the popular folk duo and the actor’s organization.

Lupu Rednic stated that he attempted to resolve the matter amicably for several months, moving from phone calls to text messaging. He alleges that the actor initially cited financial difficulties and requested a grace period of one to two months, but eventually ceased communication entirely. As TV Mania notes, the artist eventually sought legal counsel and proceeded to file a lawsuit at the Tribunalul București, viewing the court system as the only viable path to recover the owed funds. In the context of the Romanian entertainment industry, such lawsuits regarding event payments are typically handled in civil court, where the burden of proof rests on the contract signed by the parties involved.
Previous Litigations Involving the Foundation
This is not the first instance in which the foundation, DACĂ EU POT, POŢI ȘI TU, has faced legal scrutiny regarding its financial obligations. The organization has been involved in multiple disputes, as reported by B1TV, which highlighted a separate case initiated by a firm operating a tourist complex in Gorj County seeking approximately 10,000 lei. These recurring legal challenges suggest a pattern of financial friction between the entity and its service providers, ranging from hospitality businesses to professional entertainers.
In a separate ruling, the foundation was ordered by a court to pay a debt of 4,848 lei, plus 343.8 lei in legal expenses, to a company identified as SC… SA. These cases are part of a broader trend of civil litigation involving the foundation’s operational history. For service providers and artists, the process of recovering debts from non-profit entities or foundations often requires lengthy court intervention, as these organizations are subject to specific fiscal regulations regarding their revenue sources and expenditure reporting. As of June 2026, Cuzin Toma has not issued a public statement regarding the claims made by the Rednic family, nor has he provided a public accounting of the foundation’s current financial status in relation to these outstanding debts.
Legal History and Traffic Infractions
Beyond the financial disputes involving his foundation, Cuzin Toma has faced personal legal challenges that have drawn significant public attention. In November 2022, the actor received a criminal conviction with a deferred application of the sentence. The court imposed a one-year suspended prison sentence with a two-year supervision period after he was found operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and under the influence of prohibited substances. Under Romanian law, a deferred application of a sentence allows a defendant to avoid a permanent criminal record if they successfully complete a probation period and adhere to all court-ordered restrictions.

Additionally, the actor recently engaged in a legal battle with the Teleorman Traffic Police regarding a contested traffic sanction. The court ultimately rejected the actor’s appeal as unfounded and upheld the original traffic ticket, a decision the actor subsequently contested. Traffic litigation is a common occurrence in the Romanian judicial system, where individuals often challenge administrative fines. However, the accumulation of both traffic-related legal issues and financial disputes involving the actor’s foundation has created a complex public profile for the Las Fierbinți star. The outcome of the pending litigation with the Rednic family remains uncertain as the case moves forward through the court system, and legal experts suggest that the previous findings against the foundation may be entered into the record as the court evaluates the current claim.
