Disney Announces Multi-Year Celebration of America’s 250th Birthday
The Walt Disney Company today announced a comprehensive, company-wide celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, beginning on Veterans Day and culminating in a 24-hour broadcast event on July 4, 2026.
The extensive commemoration will span Disney’s platforms, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic, with the July 4th broadcast featuring fireworks displays from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Leading the coverage will be “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir, alongside talent from ABC News, ESPN, and National Geographic. This large-scale event signals a significant investment by Disney in patriotic programming and could influence similar initiatives from other major media companies.
Beyond the broadcast, Disney plans new attractions and programming. “Soarin’ Across America” will launch at Disneyland and Disney World in summer 2026, offering an immersive flight experience. “Good Morning America” will continue its “50 States in 50 Weeks” series, while National Geographic will debut “America in Superlatives” and ESPN will premiere “America’s Team” on “SportsCenter.” Disney Consumer Products will also release a new line of military-inspired merchandise. “At its heart, America’s story is one of imagination, ambition, and possibility — the same ideals that have guided Disney since the beginning,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Disney will also donate $2.5 million to Blue Star Families, host movie screenings on military bases, and offer special experiences for service members, continuing the company’s long-standing support of the military community. Special Independence Day fireworks shows will be presented at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Park from July 3 to July 5.
Disney officials stated that further details regarding the celebration’s programming and experiences will be released in the coming months.
