Manager Filipe Luís, who previously coached Telles at the under-17 level, praised the young player’s potential following the match.

“I knew the level Douglas trained at during the week. He was my player in the under-17s and I’m very happy for his goal. He has talent and a bright future ahead of him,” emphasized Filipe Luís in a press conference at the Arena de Pernambuco.

Douglas Telles was among the options for Flamengo coach Filipe Luís in attack for the match against Sport. After starting on the bench, the 18-year-old made a direct impact on the result for the Mengão when he entered the game in the second half.

Following a brilliant run by Everton Cebolinha down the right flank, the winger delivered a cross into the box. Douglas Telles was there to meet it, steering the ball home for Flamengo’s fifth goal at the Arena de Pernambuco.

Douglas Telles is one of the rising stars from Flamengo’s youth academy. He’s recently earned opportunities to train with the first team, and his performance off the bench against Sport is a testament to his potential. He was previously included in the squad to face Fortaleza, but didn’t see playing time.

Notably, Filipe Luís is familiar with Douglas Telles from his time coaching Flamengo’s under-17 team. The pair previously secured the Copa Rio title in that age group, defeating Vasco da Gama at São Januário.
