Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO to Feature Cross-Platform Upgrade Path to Switch 2
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, launching next week for Nintendo Switch, will allow players to upgrade to an enhanced version on the forthcoming Switch 2 console via a downloadable update.
Bandai Namco announced that Switch owners will be able to access the improved visuals simply by connecting their Switch 2 system to the internet and downloading the update after the console’s release. The update will deliver characters and backgrounds with “improved clarity and richer detail.” This unique approach allows early adopters to seamlessly transition to the upgraded experience without repurchasing the game.
However, certain save data, including battle replays, edit data, and online records, will not transfer to the updated version. Players will be able to battle with users on both Switch 2 and original Switch consoles, provided they have also applied the update. For a deeper dive into the game’s performance, check out our previous coverage of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO performance and resolution.
The game will be available as a Game-Key card release. This upgrade path is a notable development as it addresses concerns about backwards compatibility on the new console and offers a cost-effective solution for existing Switch owners; more information can be found on Bandai Namco’s official website.
Bandai Namco has not yet specified a date for the update’s availability beyond the Switch 2’s launch window.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO launches for the Switch and Switch 2 next week, and in case you missed it, players who purchase the Switch release will be able to update their game to play an “enhanced version” on the Switch 2 system.
Bandai Namco explains on its website (and in the video above) how you’ll be able to do this by simply connecting your Switch 2 system to the internet and then downloading the update. After this, the characters and backgrounds in the game will appear with “improved clarity and richer detail”.
When applying this update, certain save data – including battle replay data, edit data and online records cannot be carried over. As for battles, you’ll be able to play with users on Switch 2 and other Switch players who have this same update applied.
