Downtown Los Angeles Shooting: Man Identified as Suspect, Victim Named
Los Angeles police today identified Isaiah Gregory Springs, 27, as the suspect in a Monday afternoon shooting that left a 56-year-old man dead in downtown Los Angeles, a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges of gun violence in urban centers.
The victim has been identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Miquel Luque. The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth and Main streets, where Luque died on the sidewalk from a gunshot wound to his right upper back and neck, according to the coroner’s office.
LAPD Central Division officers witnessed the shooting and immediately pursued Springs as he fled north on Main Street, continuing toward Spring and Fourth streets while armed with a handgun. Officers deployed less lethal shots during the pursuit before taking Springs into custody; Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics then transported him to a hospital for treatment. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and Springs has been booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2 million, according to Los Angeles Police Department records.
