Mexico City authorities have detained a suspect in the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Edith Guadalupe Valdés Zaldívar, confirming he worked as a security guard at the building where her body was found.
Juan Jesús “N” was arrested on Friday, April 17, 2026, inside a building on Avenida Revolución 829 in the Nonoalco neighborhood of Benito Juárez borough, according to the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office. Investigators say he was apprehended after responding to a false job offer, following an extensive investigation that included surveillance footage and coordination with the city’s C5 monitoring center.
Bertha Alcalde, head of the capital’s fiscalía, confirmed the arrest, stating that forensic evidence linked the suspect to the crime scene. “The probable responsible individual is the security guard of the building where the victim entered on the day of her disappearance,” Alcalde said. “Investigators identified biological remains and positioned the suspect at the guardhouse where the attack occurred.”
Edith Guadalupe was reported missing on April 15, 2026 and her body was discovered two days later inside the same building where she had gone for what she believed was a job interview. Authorities allege she was attacked with a screwdriver and her body concealed on the premises.
The case has drawn attention to broader concerns about accountability within the prosecutor’s office, with subsequent announcements that all officials involved in the search effort are being separated from their duties amid allegations of corruption and irregularities during the investigation.
